Since starting playing drums at age 10, I have amassed musical qualifications, extensive experience of teaching drums and percussion to a wide range of ages and abilities and a broad range of performances as a professional musician. I am very passionate about teaching drums as I have followed a similar pathway from weekly drum lessons at school to gaining Drum Kit Grade 8 Distinction (Trinity Guildhall and Rock School). This culminated in playing drums for the school band, college musicals, percussion for the Halle and Trafford Youth Orchestras and my own rock bands. I also gained Music Theory Grade 5 (ABRSM), Music Technology A-level and was awarded a BA First Class Honours degree in Popular Music and Recording from the University of Salford. My passion for drums was inspired by a similar programme of study run by Trafford when I was at primary school. My own journey has helped me to motivate a lot of my students.
I currently teach part time at Hobley Music School, Abraham Moss Community School and at two primary schools in Cheshire whilst also gigging as a professional musician every weekend. I have a very purposeful approach to lessons by making them functional and fun. I always seek to personalise each student’s learning; especially those with SEN who I have always found to be very creative. This has given me an excellent insight into preparing students for their grade exams, showcase performances and auditions. I am well-versed in placing students into small ensembles and rock bands. I always strive to create a positive learning environment for my students.
I fully endorse the desire to make drumming more accessible to all students especially from socially deprived areas. I am currently a member of KiLNE which is a Council funded DEI community based percussion and brass marching band in Stoke. I am a great advocate of outreach provision as I have taught in Chorlton, Birchwood and Ellesmere Port.
As a working musician I am currently the drummer for several high profile UK touring tribute acts and regularly perform at weddings, holiday parks and percussion ensembles. I draw upon these experiences to help inspire my students. I have recently played at Glastonbury festival, the Radio Times Soap Awards and the NEA awards in London.
I am punctual, confident and a good organiser. I can multitask, work well under pressure and have good interpersonal skills. I’m a good communicator, listener and team player. I have enhanced DBS clearance, PLI and a clean licence. I am eager to bring my skillset and enthusiasm to Maunders School of Popular Music.
